Q & A

What should I wear?

The most important aspect of attire is that you be your authentic self. A reasonable middle ground is "dressy casual," but feel free to go up or down in formality.

The wedding will be outdoors with a tented area for the ceremony, dinner, and following reception activities.

The average high temperature in Boulder for our wedding day is 27 °C (81 °F), with a low of 11 °C (51 °F), and temperatures are usually a few degrees lower at our home in the foothills. Colder temperatures, rain, and high winds are possible. Guests can use the home or tent for shelter in the event of inclement weather.

Most importantly: High heels, slick-soled dress shoes, and floor-length dresses or gowns are discouraged (see Health & Safety for more information). Please wear shoes with significant tread.

What is the address of the wedding venue, and how do I get there?

  • The address of our home is 24 Pine Brook Road, Boulder, CO 80304.
  • Our home can only accommodate vendors' vehicles. There is no guest parking.
  • We have contracted with a shuttle service that will pick up guests from the Embassy/Hilton complex out of the Foothills Conference Room. We ask that guests use these shuttles and do not arrange their own cars to the venue (e.g. a ride share or taxi). See Transportation for more information.

What should I get you? I don't see a registry.

Thank you for considering getting us a gift! But we kindly ask that you don't buy us anything. For one thing, many guests are incurring significant time and cost to travel to attend. Your presence is gift enough, and we have no wish to add to anyone's expense.

For another, both Ben and Chase came into their relationship with fully stocked households, and they now find themselves with entirely too much stuff. We even considered a reverse registry, where we'd ask guests to instead take away some of our extra crap. This turned out to be impractical (mostly because it would have required us to sort through it all). But if you know anyone, especially in our local area, who needs any household goods, please put us in touch!

I have allergies. What measures will be taken to protect my health?

  • All food offerings on the buffet will include signage indicating possible ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction (e.g. gluten, lactose, nuts, shellfish, etc.).
  • In place of flowers (and associated pollen), our décor will be non-allergenic sculpture.
  • We have four cats. While most of the event is outdoors, guests will need to enter the house occasionally, for instance to get dinner from the buffet or to use the restroom. We will be cleaning and ventilating the space beforehand. During the event, the cats will all be sequestered in the upstairs bedroom. For guests with severe allergies, there is a restroom available in the separate attached studio (labeled "The Iron Desert"), where the cats never go. Nevertheless, we encourage guests to bring their preferred allergy relief medication.

I am concerned about the event taking place in close proximity to a cliff. What safety precautions will there be?

A landscape architect has recently cleaned up the pathways to the overlook areas, and we have constructed barriers to the steep areas to provide a visual warning and prevent a fall. Nevertheless, we insist that children be vigilantly supervised when exploring these areas. And again—no high heels, slick-soled shoes, or floor-length gowns.

I am bringing small children. What accommodations for their needs can I expect?

  • There are designated private bedrooms for nap time, diaper changes, time-outs for children (and adults who behave like children), etc.
  • During the ceremony and dinner, all families with small children will be seated along the edge of the tent closest to the house to provide quick access to the kiddo-relief areas.
  • We encourage parents to bring preferred hydration, snacks, and toys according to their children’s needs.
